Five Ways to Ensure Your Loved Ones Are Safe
With the Covid-19 pandemic just as concerning to people now as it was when it began, checking in on your loved ones can be a very stressful time for you. For example, if they have special needs or are vulnerable this is particularly difficult and worrying because of how severe their condition could become without proper care.
According to the CDC, each year nearly 36 million older adults in America fall resulting in more than 32,000 deaths. About 3 million elderly Americans are treated in emergency departments for fall injuries. “Elderly Injuries” are a common concern for families with elderly loved ones. They often struggle to care for them when they can’t always be around, as outlined in the following graph. With the pandemic still in effect, statistics like these can be unnerving for families.
Although we may not be able to see our loved ones in person due to the pandemic, there are ways for us stay connected during this time.
1) Put Together an Emergency Contact List
Always have an emergency contact list on hand. Make sure it is easily accessible so your loved ones can make a call if something happens quickly and efficiently, without having to search for the number or frantically scramble through papers trying to find who they need to speak with in times of distress. You should also let them know whom they would reach out too when you are not around, and family members cannot be contacted right away as this will ensure immediate assistance rather than waiting until next-of-kin calls back later after realizing that help was needed earlier but wasn’t given due time because no one reached out immediately upon finding themselves stuck somewhere alone/in harm’s way during their moment of panic. Make sure they have all your contact information stored in their phone. Include work and other numbers, just in case the primary line doesn’t work out!
The contact list should include details of local emergency services, their doctor, nearest hospital and close friends. It may also be useful to have the numbers for reliable tradespeople nearby if needed. Such tradespeople would be their local and trusted plumber, electrician, and security consultants.
2) Regularly Schedule Check-In Times
Sometimes, it’s hard to call your loved ones when you know they’re probably busy. So why not set up a time with them instead? You can put the scheduled phone calls in your calendar so that neither of you forget! This will give both parties something to look forward too and also make sure that at least one person from each party is free for the conversation.
Loneliness is a common problem for those who are unable to leave their home or go out due of the pandemic and not having visitors can be particularly distressing. Social media sites such as Skype allow you stay connected with friends on more personal level while staying at home, so setting up video calls may help ease some loneliness during this trying time in your life!
There are many ways to communicate with our loved ones these days, but writing letters is one activity that children can get involved in. Not only does it help develop their creativity and imagination, but your family member will also love receiving a letter mailed directly to them! It’s sure to put a smile on their face and brighten their day.
3) Ensure Your Loved Ones Are Safe With Home Support Arragements
Home care can be one of the best things you could do for your loved ones. Home support from cleaners, nurses and other medical professionals make it easier to manage daily activities at home while also providing valuable human interaction that is beneficial mentally.
4) Embrace New Technology
Now more than ever, families need to stay connected with each other. The Amazon Echo Show is a great way for you and your loved ones to check in on one another while away from home. They easily allow you to video chat with your loved ones no matter where you might be in the world.

5) Ensure Your Loved Ones Are Safe With Security Measures
Want to protect your loved ones from home invasions? Installing the best safety and security measures, such as window and door security screens, will provide that piece of mind for both you and your loved ones. Premier security screens are the only product on the market that STOP intruders at the point of entry instead of just recording what may happen. With their stainless-steel mesh and multi interlocking systems, these screens are industry tested to ensure they can withstand anything a would-be home invader can through at them.
